Today, weâre diving into a juicy, controversial, and ever-relevant topic: Is it okay to cast spells or use magick to influence someone else?
According to Hermetic philosophy, everything is one. This hermetic principle, âAs above, so below,â reminds us that the micro (you) reflects the macro (everything else). Your thoughts arenât just private things that are just bouncing around your skull, theyâre signals, they are some sort of energetic frequencies. Ripples in a collective ocean
So even if you donât light a candle or chant a spell, your intent alone carries weight, WHY? well because Intent, at its core is focused/concentrated attention or concentrated thoughts in one specific direction. Every grudge, wish, fear, or desire you project into the world has an effect. Youâre already influencing people all the time, whether you mean to or not.
This complicates things. If influence is constant and unavoidable, where do we draw the line?
Thereâs a world of difference between influence and control.
Influence is natural. You inspire someone. You share an idea that may draws people in, can inspire them for example.
Control, on the other hand, crosses a boundary. You try to override someoneâs will. You impose your desires on their path.

A spell to bring clarity or healing to a broken relationship? That leans toward influence. A spell to make someone fall in love with you or do what you want? Now weâre veering into control.
If someone didnât ask for your intervention, even with good intentions, youâre treading in murky waters.
Many people think if their heart is in the right place, itâs all good. But thatâs not always true. Magick works on intention plus direction, is directed imagination/thought/feelings in one direction. And misdirected intentions can create chaos. If youâre using magick to influence someone else, youâre working with real energy. That means real consequences. Spiritual work isnât a game, itâs a mirror. What you send out has a way of coming back. Not always immediately, but always eventually.
In the end, this isnât just about ethics. Itâs about integrity. Use your magick, of course own your power... but as with anything in this life try to see beyond and take wise decisions in everything that you do in life or spells/visualizations that you want to materialize.
The truth is, you're influencing people whether you mean to or not.
Letâs say youâre focused on attracting financial prosperity. You start meditating, visualizing wealth, and aligning your mindset with abundance. What happens? You begin sending signals into that vast energetic field we all share and what some might call this the universal ocean. Those signals resonate with others who already live in a prosperous mindset. Because like attracts like, you start syncing with those people, ideas, and opportunities.
Over time, this can lead to a flood of inspiration, business ideas, creative breakthroughs, or even job offers that come out of the blue, maybe through a friend or a chance encounter.
Why? Because magick works through people.
Personally, I focus my energy inward. I use meditation, rituals, and inner work to shape myself, to think better, act differently, evolve. I stay away from spells that aim to control others or force a specific outcome. To me, that crosses a line. When you elevate yourself, you naturally begin to attract people and situations that reflect that same frequency.
Influence starts with who you're becomingânot what youâre trying to force.
